Interview || Fashion Talk with Janelle Nicole

I introduce to you Janelle Nicole, Fashion Stylist & Assistant Costume Designer for BET's ‘The Game' Janelle talks with me about her involvement with the Hit TV series 'The Game', Getting her start in the industry and more

Arkeedah: How did you get your start in the industry?
Janelle Nicole: While in college, I played with and entertained a few different career paths (I wanted to be an attorney) I worked in retail at the time and I would watch different stylist come in and pull for different projects. I immediately took to the idea and started inquiring and becoming a sponge about the industry. Shortly after that I just made up my mind and saw exactly what I wanted my future to look like., so I pulled the trigger. I started seeking people to assist and dedicated myself to learning everything there was to learn. Fast forward six years, and now I am happily married to the shit!

Arkeedah: Who are some of your favorite clients you've worked with?
Janelle Nicole: Chris Brown and Ne-Yo are my favorites. Chris Brown for his energy and creativity. Trying to keep up with him and his creative genius of a mind was a huge challenge and most fulling. Ne-Yo because he is a constant reminder of what just being an all around good person will get you in the end. Ne-Yo is the sweetest and most  genuine person EVER and coming across people like that make the "job" not a job at all.

Arkeedah: What was the most fulfilling aspect about being apart of the game?
Janelle Nicole: WOW... If you would have asked me that two weeks ago my answer would have been drastically different.  BUT, today,  I am overwhelmed with how spiritually fulling the experience ended up being. Watching the MOST deserving cast receive that type of love and respect... Watching visionaries like Mara Brock Akil (the creator of "The Game") and Salim Akil (the Director) stay so focused towards a goal and remaining so positive through out the journey was life changing.  I knew it was going to be huge.... and its ironic that with the game being brought back after being away for two years.... I signed up to go down to Atlanta to see history and as of 1/11/11 ended up making history. 7.7 Million viewers... ONE WORD: HellYeah!

Arkeedah: What made you decide to step into this profession?
Janelle Nicole: I chose to screw the masses and do something that would allow me to be in a love affair everyday. I needed something more insane then what I saw everyday… and then insanity found me! In other words... I SNAPPED!

Arkeedah: What do you enjoy most about being a stylist?
Janelle Nicole: Its the ability to move. I love to move for movements sake. This profession offers me exactly what I would need from life in general.... artistry, free form, selflessness, color, fluidity and of course lots of elbow room to beat my clients with hot pieces! (In English: Lots of elbow room to make my clients look hot)
