Details behind Uzo Aduba Sophisticated Glam Emmy Awards Look

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a HUGE Orange is the new Black Fan and Uzo Aduba aka Crazy Eyes is one of my favorite characters on the show.  She attended the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards and her hairstylist and makeup artist are sharing details about her look below:

Makeup details shared by Makeup Artist: Jessica Smalls

EYES
I started by brushing her brows into place and then perfecting the shape with Cargo “Dark” brow pencil and brushing one coat of clear brow gel, to hold them in place. Next I applied Cargo “HD Picture Perfect Eye Shadow Primer” (to keep her shadow from creasing) to the lid, used a damp flat shadow brush and applied Cargo shadow in "Yukon" on top. Then using the Artis “Circle 1R” brush, I blended it out with a medium brown color and a second Cargo shadow in "Columbia" was applied to the outer corners, slightly pulled out, to give a more almond shaped eye. Cargo Swimmable eyeliner in "Black Sea" was applied to the waterline, lashes (top and bottom) with 2 coats of Cargo “HD Picture Perfect Mascara” (used a clean mascara wand to separate the lashes) and applied a few individual lashes to the outer corners of her eyes.

SKIN
Prepping the skin is key to radiant glow, so I started by adding a few drops of liquid bronzer into her moisturizer and massaged it into her skin.  Once her skin felt supple, applied a sheer layer of Cargo’s “HD Picture Perfect Pore Refining Primer” all over her face and using the Artis oval 8 brush, buffed a semi matte foundation into her skin. Next, I used my ring finger to apply Cargo “One Base” concealer in "045 (a deep peach color)" to brighten her under eye area and used the Artis “Oval 4” to buff in concealer in "05 ( mocha colored) to other areas of her face that need a bit more coverage. Using a large fluff brush, I set her makeup with a dark translucent powder ( focusing on the center of her face to control shine in the Tzone area) and highlighted under her eyes, down her nose and a top her cheekbones with Cargo HD Powder in #40.  Bronzer was used all over her face for the perfect glow and layered Cargo blushes "Laguna and Cannes" to give her cheeks a warm apricot glow.

LIPS
With beautiful full lips, they always become the center of attention, so I showed them lots of love by mixed raw sugar in some lip balm and exfoliating her lips. Once they soft and extra smooth, Cargo HD Picture Perfect lip Primer was applied and her lips slightly filled in with a rich brown lip liner. Using a lip brush applied Cargo lipstick in "Dubai" and to get the perfect nude lip for her skin, I toned the lipstick by applying 1 layer Cargo Lip Gloss in "Tuscany" on top.

The Emmys are an exciting and amazing time! It is a definite honor to be asked to style Uzo Aduba for her big night!

Our look for today was Classic Beauty! Soft, simple pulled back bun with a little volume keeping it soft at the top. Very Glamorous & Chic!

I shampooed and conditioned Uzo's natural hair with Motions Lavish Conditioning Shampoo & Moisture Plus Conditioner. I sprayed the hair with Motions Nourish Leave-In Conditioner, and comb thru for even distribution. I added a small amount of Motions Straight Finish Sealer, then blow dried the hair straight. I love this product combination because it really eliminates frizz and smoothes the hair. The hair was silky and ready for a classic style.

The entire head was flat ironed with a focus on the top, adding a bump for volume. For added volume, the hair was fluffed with my fingers (a simple trick anyone can do). The hair was then pulled toward the back into a simple bun, secured with hair pins, leaving the volume at the top.

The sides of the hair, and back at nape of the neck were smoothed with the Motions Shine Enhancing Pomade and the Motions Light Hold Working Spritz. The blow dryer was used to seal the hair, a simple trick that holds a style into place smooth and beautiful.

To finish the look, I spray the entire head with Motions Hold & Shine, my go to product for red carpet looks. The combination of hair spray and spray shine keep the look natural and in place all night. The look is complete, and Uzo is off to shine on the red carpet. Very Glamorous & Chic!
